Course Title:   « Technisches Englisch für Elektrotechnik I & II »   ( English for Electrical Engineering and Computer Science I & II )

Type:   English for Special Purposes (ESP)

Open to:   Students of all scientific and engineering departments, but primarily of electrical engineering and computer science; also open to faculty members or visitors

Prerequisites:   Good basic knowledge of English. Teaching is through the medium of English. Course I has been assessed as an intermediate course (level B1) and Course II as an advanced course (level B2/C1)

Objectives of the course:  

The intention of this course is to

  a)   Activate and extend the special vocabulary of electrical engineering and computer science as well as to perfect the following skills:

  b)  Provide knowledge in the following areas:

The course has been designed to run for two semesters. Topics from the core subjects of electrical engineering, power engineering, radio-frequency engineering and electronics are treated. Information technology, telecommunications and business aspects of engineering receive particular emphasis.

Learning material:   This consists mainly of working papers distributed at the beginning of each session.

Examination:   Certification of attendance and performance is provided, subject to regular attendance and completion of tests. The principal test is an oral presentation (c. 15 mins) with a short written report (c. 1000 words)

Time:   Fridays during the 13-week semester; 12.15 - 13.45 (Course I) and 14.15 - 15.45 (Course II)
